What are Insolvency Practitioners?
Once a company or partnership is insolvent (it cannot pay its debts as they fall due, or its liabilities, including contingent and prospective ones, exceed its assets), or an individual cannot pay their debts, it is usually wise to take advice from a licensed insolvency practitioner, and most formal insolvency procedures need one to act as office-holder. Insolvency practitioners frequently come from an accountancy or legal background, but the licence is a separate qualification: authorisation by a recognised professional body, which in practice means passing the JIEB examinations and meeting that body’s experience requirement. Apart from the official receiver, a civil servant who often acts in compulsory liquidations and bankruptcies, only a licensed practitioner can take an appointment as an office-holder. You can check any practitioner’s licence on the Insolvency Service register. Their duties include acting in procedures such as:

Where We Are
Langley House is on Theobald Street in Borehamwood, a short walk from Elstree & Borehamwood station and about twenty minutes by train from central London. It houses both AABRS® and our sister firm Accura Accountants. Most of what we do does not need you to come to us at all: the first conversation is normally by phone or video, and where a meeting helps we will arrange one somewhere convenient.
